17 August

With the school closure this week, all sports fixtures are cancelled for this coming weekend 20th and 21st August. For any queries please contact Lincoln Doull, Director of Sport.

17 August

This afternoon, all Havelock North schools met with the District Health Board to discuss the ongoing response to the potential campylobacter outbreak. The District Health Board advice is that primary and intermediate schools should remain closed to reduce the risk of secondary infection and further spread of the illness. Accordingly Hereworth will now reopen on Monday 22nd August and we will be contacting all our parents via email shortly.

Joint statement from Havelock North school Principals

15 August

We have been advised by the Ministry of Education that due to the continued risk of the campylobacter outbreak the school should not remain open. Given the seriousness of the situation we are following their advice and closing the school until Thursday 18 August. Whilst we fully appreciate that this two day closure will cause disruption for our families, our primary concern is for the well-being of the boys and staff, and we thank you for your understanding.

14 August

Hereworth is open today as normal. Robust Health & Safety policies are in place to minimise the spread of any communicable illness within the school including regular sanitising, providing bottled water for our students, and turning off the water fountains. We do not have any unwell students in our Boarding House. More information will be posted as the situation develops.

12 August

The Gastroenteritis bug circling through the school has affected the sports teams for this weekend’s fixtures. With such a shortage of players, the following teams will not play this weekend:
Rugby: 12th Grade, 11th Grade Green, 10th Grade
Hockey: 3rd XI
Many of the available boys have been drafted into other teams as cover, and your son knows if he is one of those boys so please check with him before heading out for your games this weekend.

11 August

We have had several boys unwell with vomiting and diarrhoea over the past few days. To avoid further spread of this illness within the school please follow the Ministry of Health guidelines and keep your boys at home for 48 hours after the last episode of vomiting or diarrhoea.

Hereworth Old Boys' Association

Established in 1948, the Hereworth Old Boys’ Association (HOBA) is an informal but energetic body that provides an ongoing link for past pupils with the school. Its fundraising achievements support an annual Old Boys’ Scholarship as well as various smaller projects within the school. Old Boys are also actively involved in the school’s governance with a Board of Trustee representative.

About HOBA

Hereworth Old Boys Association Logo

A major source of income for the Association are the subscription fees that boys are encouraged to pay when they reach Year 7 or 8. Subscription entitles boys to Life Membership of HOBA and the annual Old Boys’ magazine ‘The Locker Room’. They also cover the cost of The Old Boy’s tie that is presented to every boy when they leave Hereworth.

The current Hereworth Old Boys’ Association President is Mr James Nilsson and he is supported by an active committee.

Update Your Details

We are continuously updating our Old Boys’ database so we can keep you up to date with happenings at Hereworth and news from the Old Boys’ Association. If you have moved or changed your contact details recently, please complete the form below and submit. Thank you.

Social Activities

Regular social gatherings and the annual “Old versus Current” boys’ cricket match form the basis of the Association’s activities. It is active in various functions throughout the year, with a Founders’ Dinner, the Young Old Boys’ get-togethers, and the Old Boys’ Summer Sports Day to name a few. All functions are great opportunities for old boys to return to Hereworth, catch up with old friends, and enjoy some good old boy hospitality.

Hereworth Old Boys 4WD Trek

The biennial 4WD Trek is a big event for the HOBA and the ‘Hereworth Fence’ project has seen the old picket fence replaced with the sale of pickets going towards the Old Boys’ Scholarship Fund. Find out more about the Hereworth Fence Project and use the form below to purchase your personally named picket.

Supporting Current Hereworth Boys

Hereworth Old Boys’ Association subscriptions and fundraising provides a scholarship that allows a Year 7 or 8 boy who, without the scholarship, would not be able to attend Hereworth. If you would like to contribute to the scholarships fund or establish a new scholarship in your name, please contact the Foundation Co-ordinator by email, or you can make a donation using the form below.

The 65 Club

Hereworth 65 Club Logo

The 65 Club is an opportunity for Hereworth Old Boys aged 65 and over to get together for a lunch and a spot of reminiscing once or twice a year. There is a small one-off joining fee and a charge for each lunch to cover costs.

If you would like to join the 65 Club, or know someone who would qualify, please download the 65 Club Membership Form and return it to the Foundation Co-ordinator.
