Dean's Story

"Our son's improvement in the space of a year, not only academically but socially in his own confidence and self-worth, is incredible."

Having unsuccessfully battled our way through the public system’s ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to dyslexia, we’ve found Hereworth’s exceptional teachers and support staff, high academic standards, small class sizes, learning support, and strong values have been transformational for not only Dean but us as a family.

My eyes still well up when I think back to when Dean first started, as Mrs Unger gave me a big hug and said so confidently "It’s ok - we've got this". Our son's improvement in the space of a year, not only academically but socially in his own confidence and self-worth, is incredible. Gill, Jenny, Ian and the wider Hereworth team are simply exceptional and their vested interest into Dean's success is apparent.

It's certainly not easy sending Dean to Hereworth, and we will forever be grateful to the Old Boys' & Girls' Association for their scholarship, but all the sacrifices are worth it. To see him so happy in his learning, surrounded by such a cool group of friends, and with offers of placement in two of the best boys’ secondary schools in the country (Lindisfarne and Rathkeale) is incredible! My only regret - not enrolling him sooner!
